Check Your Spotlight

I have a word yall, Lets just jump right in!

In this social media age it's so hard not to share every moment of your life with the world because that's what everyone is doing. Everyone is posting every high of their lives, notice I said high because they leave out the lows. Everyday, every second, its a new moment being posted. Well before we close out this 4th quarter, God gave me a word that stopped me in my tracks.

Sometimes I get so excited about the way God moves in my life that I am sometimes eager to share the good news with a friend or family member but the word shook me. God told me, this next season is less about the small victories but more about your focus on the work. He told me, put your head down and focus on the work at hand that I have for you. Stop coming up for air just to show someone else what we're doing so that they can celebrate you. Every time you come up for air you prolong the process. That word made me look myself in the mirror and I had to dig deep and ask myself some serious questions. Why is it significant to you to share those small victories? Is it important to you to feel acknowledged? Why does their celebration flatter you? Is the Glory for you or for God?

I begin to recognize desires in me that I didn't realize I had. I'm always used to feeling so secure with myself and I was really seeing that the more I shared every little thing the more I needed to hear that I was doing a good job. I began to realize how much my obsession with social media caused me to compare myself and my brand so every small victory was a moment to put the spotlight on me. God began to show me just how much my generation is online competing for a spotlight that should be on God.

So, I began to share less with people and celebrated God more on my own and I noticed the difference it has made in my productivity. I realize how much time I wasted seeking validation that God had already given me. So my question to you is, who is your spotlight on? Who is your focus on? Careful not to focus on the approval of man so much that you forget that God has already approved you. He knew you before he created you and he gave your purpose the stamp of approval before you were formed in your mothers womb. If you're on social media it's hard not to share or compare but God is saying in this season, Don't prolong the process!

Everytime you come up for air to impress someone, to brag, to prove yourself, you prolong the process. Put your head down and focus on the purpose-filled work that he has at hand for you.

Jeremiah 1:5 "Before you were formed in your mothers womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart, I appointed you as my prophet to the nations"

This scripture is just confirmation that your purpose and your destiny were already created before you were formed. This doesn't need validation from man! This just proves that you were already validated! Check your spotlight! Put the spotlight on God and he will be sure to shine his light on you.

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
